Stanislaus County Jail Roster

The Stanislaus County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody in Stanislaus County, California. StanislausCourt.us helps find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official website of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, in person at the jail lobby, or by calling the facility's main line. The roster is maintained by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and is regularly updated to reflect the current inmate population. It serves as a transparency tool, allowing the public to track arrests and detentions.

Search Current Inmates in Stanislaus Jail

The Stanislaus County Sheriff publishes an online inmate roster called "Who's in Custody." This tool is available 24/7 and does not require registration.

Online Search

  1. Go to the "Who's in Custody" page on the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department website.
  2. Enter the last name or booking number in the search field. If the search field is missing, use the browser function Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to find the last name in the list.
  3. Review the results — each entry includes the name, booking date, charges, and custody status.

To search, you will need the person's full legal name or booking number. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

Find Stanislaus Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time a person is brought to jail and goes through the registration process. This is the first official document recording the detention.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of arrival at the facility
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency (sheriff, city police, etc.)
  • Personal details of the detainee — name, date of birth, photo

The fastest way to obtain this information is to use the "Who's in Custody" online roster. If the person has already been released and the record has disappeared from the roster, you will need to contact the Sheriff's Department directly with a written request for records.

The California Public Records Act guarantees citizens the right to access public information maintained by local and state agencies. However, some categories of records — such as materials from ongoing investigations — may be restricted. For information on a specific person's criminal history, the California Attorney General maintains a separate criminal records registry.

Search the Stanislaus Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin script. If the last name is common, add the first name to narrow the results. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling. Even one incorrect letter can lead to empty results.
  • Try spelling variations — hyphenated, with or without an apostrophe.
  • If the system supports partial search, enter only the first few letters of the last name.

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it — this is the most accurate way to find a specific record. The number is usually provided at the time of arrest or communicated to relatives.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not always mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  • The booking process is not yet complete, and the record has not yet appeared in the system.
  • The person has already been released, and the record has been removed from the active roster.
  • The name was entered incorrectly, or the person is registered under a different name variation.

In such cases, call the jail directly at (209) 525-5630. The operator can manually verify the information.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Stanislaus

The "Who's in Custody" roster is updated throughout the day but not in real-time. There may be a delay of several minutes to several hours between the actual booking and the record appearing on the website, depending on the facility's workload and data entry speed.

Key limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after arrest. A person may already be in custody but not yet appear in the system until staff complete the processing.
  • Removal after release. Once an inmate is released — on bail, by court order, or after serving their term — the record disappears from the roster. The system only shows those currently in custody.
  • Not an archive. The roster does not store the history of all past bookings. To obtain old records, an official request must be submitted to the Sheriff's Department.
  • Limited data. Medical information, data on minors, and some details of ongoing investigations are not published.

If you need court records related to an inmate's case, use the Stanislaus County Superior Court online services. There you can find case titles, view some filed documents, and track the status of proceedings. For administrative court records, the court offers a special judicial administrative records request form, which can be mailed or delivered in person.

General information on accessing public records in California, including court records, is provided on the California Judicial Branch public records page.
